Bamboozled! The Making of a Black Conservative

Politics? I knew everything I needed to know upon casting my very first vote for Bill Clinton in 1996. I didn’t know much about economics but I knew Democrats cared for the poor. I didn’t know much about history but I knew Democrats looked out for us black folks. From a young child, I was conditioned to believe that Republicans were mostly racist white men that only cared for the rich. My conventional wisdom was derived from many sources (television, Hollywood movies, the public school system, my family, etc.). For example, people such as Clarence Thomas were often ridiculed and referred to as an Uncle Tom or a sell-out on television. So quite naturally, I identified as a Democrat and conformed to my environment. There were no black Republicans in my home town of Gary, Indiana (at least none that I knew of). Local politicians overwhelmingly ran on the Democratic ticket for city, municipal and county offices. Being that my city is nestled in Northwest Indiana, it falls within the greater Chicago-land region. It is just 20+ miles away from the city of Barack Obama, Jesse Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers. Needless to say, my worldview was heavily influenced by liberals from my youth.
In 1998, my worldview began to change as my appetite for reading my King James Bible increased. I noticed that liberals introduced legislation for churches to lose their tax exempt status and felt that this was an attack on the founding principle derived from Ezra 7:24. I also noticed that the Democrats stood for abortion, which Scripture is emphatically against. It was also quite disturbing to find out that liberals historically fought against voluntary prayer in schools. These new-found facts bothered me but I dared not tell anyone so I kept my criticism to myself. I began to have problems being able to reconcile my faith to my political association. For the first time in my life, I took a look at both political platforms and studied them. Once again, I was disturbed to see that the Republican platform fought for traditional marriage, to maintain a tax exempt status for the Church, was against abortion, for voluntary school prayer and against the legalization of drugs. Learning this opened my eyes to the fact that I had been bamboozled. Based on these principles alone, I made a secret conversion from a liberal Democrat to a conservative Republican. My conversion was so private that I dared not tell even my mother or anyone close to me. There was no way I was going to allow myself to be ridiculed with the likes of Clarence Thomas and others.
Over time my sense of faith and political awareness increased. Economically, I noticed that although our communities were riddled with government programs, they seemed to have an adverse affects on us. More and more I saw the government replacing the father in the household. The nucleus of the black family was broken. The family is the foundation of the community and as the psalmist writes in Psalms 11:3, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Being raised by a single mother myself, I saw how welfare gave my father and “easy out”. By no means would I ever advocate that Republicans are perfect but they were not the ones pushing for these big-government welfare programs. In fact, Conservatives don’t run any urban areas but I noticed that Liberals do. Year after year Black leaders would come to our communities around voting time and blame the conditions of our city on so-called rich white Republicans. My eyes were opened to two powerful tactics that Democrats use to keep my people in blindness: race baiting and class warfare. Their elections thrived on agitating race relations and stirring up “rich vs. poor” wars. Shortly thereafter, I could no longer remain silent as I began to open up to my family and close friends. To my surprise, some also made a political conversion, but many did not.
Looking back, I have no regrets and I thank God for His Word shaping my worldview. I am no longer ashamed to tell the world that I am an advocate of ‘conserving’ God’s principles. Any critic reading this testimony would ask, “Why in the world would you put your faith in Republicans?” I would have to respond by saying that my faith rests in God and His principles alone.

  1. Takia, I read your article last year and again today, and I have to tell you how much I admire you for THINKING, and then to have the courage to act on your discoveries and conclusions. The majority of Americans don’t think. Bill O’Reilly ten or so years ago said that 80% of American voters are straight party line (Dem or Repub). They don’t analyze anything, don’t discern anything, do think about anything. They just vote their party line. That percentage may had dropped a little since then, but on Facebook I see far too many are totally one-sided in their thinking to the detriment of truth, integrity and any realistic appraisal of where the country is going. But, as you are well aware, God is in control, and Jesus is coming again, and both parties — even if they don’t know it — have helped pave the way for that. God bless you.

  2. Many times I wonder if people today truly devote some time to come up with something imaginative, or are they only just dishing out words to fill a website. This without a doubt doesn’t fit that form. Bless you for spending the time to compose with awareness. Occasionally I read through a post and wonder whether they even proofread it.Very good job on this posting.

  3. I read your article and went through a conversion very similar to what you have been through. It seemed so perfect. After I year I got fed up with the half truths and lies by conservatives.
The Republicans are only USING black conservatives and are using Christianity as a front to entice black people.(I’m a christian and left leaning moderate) Now I understand what they tell you but you need to take a course in sociology or history.
The conservatives told you that black people had slaves as well in Africa and sold them to whites. What they won’t tell you is that blacks ONLY had the males as slaves(No women and children) AND they were granted full citizenship after several years. Racism in America was based on hatred of black people and belief that black people were genetically inferior. They used WOMEN AND CHILDREN. They weren’t granted citizenship and were treated as inferior.
The conservatives were the same people that put up housing codes to make sure black people were not allowed in white communities regardless of whether they had the money to afford it. Conservatives were the same people that wanted black people segregated because they knew black schools were inferior and if they went to school with whites they would raise hell.
Conservatives were the same people that fought tooth and nail against segregation. They will lie and tell you that republicans voted for civil rights BUT only people who were against it were hardcore southern fundementalist conservatives who didn’t believe that black people being equal fitted into “God’s view” of how society should run. The conservatives used christianity as a sheepskin for their bigotry and hatred of black people. While the liberal christians fought for equality, the conservatives voted against it. Barry Goldwater who was conservative REPUBLICAN voted against the civil rights and was endorsed by George H.W. Bush.
I know they sound too good to be true but its that way because it is too good to be true. The conservatives have fought TOOTH AND NAIL to keep black people ignorant, repressed, out of college, AND miserable. They don’t want black people becoming doctors, lawyers, scientist, engineers, etc. They want them doing low wage, low skill jobs.
Just a litle fact, welfare has a 3 year LIFETIME limit. It was passed by DEMOCRAT Clinton. Most people on welfare are off after 2 years. That doesn’t sound like enslaving people to welfare to me.
Don’t drink the conservative kool-aid. Black conservatives are just disposable pawns to them. If you do not think there are institutionalized discrimination to black people by conservatives, then you are very misguided.
    God Bless.

  4. Congrats on your conversion and the courage through God ‘s spirit to stand up for what you believe. With that being said I find it extremely problematic that you are generalizing negativity to all Democrats. I am a believer in Christ and the word of God, I do not believe in abortions, that is murder, but I will not interfere with woman’s choice to do so because that is between her and the God of her understanding. I also believe that marriage is between a man and woman and as such I will never support gay marriage, but I will not stand in judgement and be a part of denying them the rights they we as couples enjoy. To say that a Democrat cannot be a Christian is beyond my belief. I agree with the reply that neither political party is about God…..it’s politics. Some Republicans are wonderful people and some Democrats are as well. There is corruption in politics, some church ministries and in the lives of everyday people. I think this conversation would better served by praying for people who are suffering, those black men who are in prison many with sentences they are over the top harsh, those kids in inner cities have no choice but to attend sub standard schools that are falling apart and unfit….for the black who on a daily basis are contracting HIV….and let’s not forget other under represented groups that are facing many challenges as well before we compare politics to God.

  5. Sister Takia. You are truly blessed and highly favored. I wholeheartily agree with your testimony. Powerful and life-changing indeed. I am also a black conservative christian. Truth has always been available for our people to know it, but our people for so long now since the 1960s have been deceived by the democrat party and our so-called black community leaders such as Jesse Jackson, Opra Winfrey, Danny Glover, Hip Hoppers, Hollywood, political leaders like Maxine Waters, John Conyers, Shelia Jackson-Lee, Jim Clyburn, NAACP, liberal Pastors/Bishops, ignorant family members, and friends who don’t even know why they themselves are a democrat. They just follow the leader and fall into the ditch with them to their death when it comes to important social issues such as politics, spirituality, finances, education, and life. I want to challenge readers to compare the political platforms of Republicans vs Democrats and then decide for yourself which side you wholeheartily supports based upon your convictions of your faith in God and love for America! I did and now I am FREE! The truth shall make you FREE! God bless!

  6. Takia: Us white folks were bamboozled too. We grew up Democrat because our parents were, or we were told the Dems are nicer to poor people, and the Repubs only like BIG BUSINESS. I bought that hook, line and sinker, until I was in my 40s (I’m ashamed to admit it took that long), and I started reading, and studying my history, and talking to people. And a window opened, and the fresh air came into my brain. So don’t feel too bad. You black folks have certainly had your share of lies and deceit, but some of us whities are Recovering Dems as well. Let’s stick together. The Democrat party is good for NOBODY.

  8. Now that your eyes have had the veil of blindness lifted, I hope you take your message back to the communities where the poor black people are still believing the liberal lies. I went through the same conversion years ago after the Vietnam situation………..and I have never looked back only shook my head in amazment that these young kids are being lied to by professors and the likes and they believe the filthy lies the Democrats keep feeding them.
    God Bless You!!!

  9. Tamika Holloway you’re story is remarkable and is heartwarming to say the least. I was too bamboozled by voting for Bill Clinton for these United States by believing he was going to cut taxes on the middle class plus I overlooked his parties stance on all moral issues. I was also angry at George H.W. Bush going back on his word “NO NEW TAXES”. I asked God to forgive me for voting this way and never did again since that time. Psalm 1(KJV) says:Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. From that time on I have been voting on Biblical Principles and the Repubican party is not perfect(there are some RHINOS), but is in tune with moral principles of Bible Doctrine. I say if you are a Christian “VOTE THE BIBLE”!! DO NOT BE BAMBOOZLED BY LIBERALS!!! Now our nation is in serious trouble with this exploding debt. Our government is spending more than it is taking in. That is a reciepe for bankruptcy. Our nation can’t afford for this to happen . We need more tax payers(aka. More people working) not more and higher taxes. WE NEED TO PRAY FOR OUR NATION along with Govenor Rick Perry of Texas on August 6th, 2011.

  10. Takia,

Wow, I relate to this. I’m not black, but raised in very liberal, hippie San Francisco community. Never heard conservative views, only liberal, due to school, movies, news, parents, community.

But when our questions couldn’t be answered, we both looked elsewhere.

Good for you for speaking up. I, too, am no longer silent.

  11. Ms.Hollowell, How Inspiring. Matthew 5:11&12 indicates your rewards will be great in Heaven. With regard to other aspects in your article, I suggest that there are Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who suffer the same problem you once did. They fail to think for themselves. They lack the courage of their convictions-whether that be due to peer pressure, lust for power, desire for money, or the like. If they would only listen to that quiet voice inside them. Perhaps they would stop serving themselves, and serve their constituents instead. A respected man once taught us to not judge a man by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. Another taught us to love God with all our heart, soul and mind; and love your neighbor as yourself. If more of our representatives would only pay heed to these, and similar thoughts and beliefs-inspiration ( like Ms. Hollowell’s ) would infect this Country, and pride and joy would unite us

  12. Concerning my earlier post, which might still be above this one:

I shouldn’t or didn’t mean to say Republicans lie. There needs to be a caveat. I think the strategy that many Republicans use is lies. Not that Democrats don’t lie. But I think, and after reading some literature, many Republicans know that some of their stuff sounds ridiculous … lies and theories, but they keep pushing the erroneous information because of the impact it will have, especially on those that loyally believe their party, and refuse evidence that speaks otherwise. I don’t want to sound biased. I might be but I don’t want to be. The reason why I might be is because I was a Democrat for most of my life too. Forgive me Republicans.

    • You’re forgiven, Mr. Boxton! : ) You are right. Every party, institution, lobby, or group that arrays itself against the principles of Scripture only destroys itself and any other body it can pull down with it. Light shines in the darkness. We must continue to let our light shine on the Holy Writ whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, Tea Party and not let our cultures get in the way of Truth. Once truth is jettisoned, the end is near… Thanks Takia for getting this out there, Kate for giving us a sterling history lesson, David for his wrestling with the Truth and squaring it with current events. I’m glad the trolls haven’t gotten to this, yet! : )

  13. I was totally headed in the same until unrighteousness was discovered in the Republican party as well. I hated my Democrats for sweeping in all the immorality under the carpet, cloaked behind efforts to aid humanity. It appeared that the morals of God were on the Republican ticket. Then I took notice at how they used lying and deception to achieve their own goals (some of which included God’s will, but many that are self-centered and greedy). I don’t believe that we can blatantly lie, and call that Godly. Although God can use EVEN our sins and He has been known to use sinners to accomplish His will, that is not His preferred method. He doesn’t need our sin to accomplish His objectives and our sinful acts are not representative of His Kingdom nor do they contribute to the advancement of His Kingdom. The end does not justify the means. He has anointed each believer with gifts and talents, by which we are able promote the Lord in His Kingdom and even in secular forms of government. We should never become sold-out to anything having a secular origin that relies on secular means for sustenance even if that thing holds more of Godly values or less of the values of regarding the systems of this world. Republican’s don’t have a problem admitting that they will lie to achieve their goals. “It’s their way.” As a believer, I have a problem with that “for the greater good, anything goes” mentality. I don’t want any believer to switch parties especially if that switching is intended to position us in Christ. IT WILL NOT! I do advocate that the sincere believers in the republican party, become Holy and the sincere believers in the democratic party become Holy. We can’t assume that they are. I know a host of Democrats that don’t agree with abortion and that are against homosexual marriage and much of the other immoral lobbying that is fostered under that ticket. Joining the Republican ticket does not bring them closer to the will of God. Following God’s lead is what is going to bring us to our knees.

I can bet you this. The feuding between parties will end. But it won’t be a Godly end. It will be harmony from a world’s perspective. It will be a union under the guise of peace but not the Peace of Christ. It will be a temporal period that getting along will apparently have more benefits than being divided. Minds and hearts will be seduced even more than they are now as the rule of the anti-christ becomes more pronounced.

We should not be surprised. That is the whole idea. We should seperate ourselves from the ties to this world. We will be able to vote across party lines, I understand but even then, it is the Spirit that should lead us into all truth. If we are led by the Spirit to vote against our own party, we should do it.

1 Cor 13:7 (NLT) 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

The fighting between believers, between parties, as witness by non-believers deflects Christ. What will they believe when they see the two parties unite without Christ? It will look like the supreme ticket. Many will be deceived.

Political parties are not Christian. There are Christians in political parties. We can’t call these parties Christian. They are not the Church. They are not seeking God. The hopes are anti-Christ and the speeches are anti-prophetic. They are love songs designed to lure us away from the truth. And our ears are itching to hear more.

There are individuals, those inside these secular parties; however, that are seeking God. They refuse to be carried away by everything they hear because they know that a party that is not totally yielding to God will not be wholly reliable. These people are part of the Truth Church that God is perfecting. God hears these people as they cry out to Him and cry out for His Kingdom. This world is being preserved by there existence and their Holy practices. If we don’t sever these total, die-hard, allegiances for these secular institutions we will continue embody hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; which is the fruit of our sinful nature (Gal 5:19).

I don’t know if I can post a note here. But it is on Facebook. Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=435362663549

Also, we should love (AGAPE) love that is. We should love enough to pull each other, not from Party to Party, but from non-belief to belief . . . . from sin to holiness. Neither party has what we really need. I do believe though that there are people within each party that are seeing the need abandon party loyalties in order to become attractive to the lost, whatever party the lost can be found in.

I really did appreciate Takia’s writing. I understand her points. I didn’t think she revealed enough concerning the Republican party in order to make a fair assessment. There is a book “Blinded by Might” that may explain why we can’t really rely on either party in order to achieve the true essence of what God’s will is for His people.

  14. A general response to Takia Hollowell:

First, your name…are you aware that your name is Arabic for Liar?
It is usually spelled taqiaa (using english letters, of course)

Second, I hope, sincerely that your testimony above isn’t a ploy to catch us sappy Conservative Republicans stupid enough to send you money to fund BHO’s re-election campaign.

Sorry for being such a skeptic…but your testimony is identical to mine, except I am white and worked my ass off to stay off Welfare, etc. when others in my family were on it.

Apologies if your the real deal, but I had this feeling in my gut when I saw your name!

  15. “my worldview began to change as my appetite for reading my King James Bible increased”

I know people who believe that religion should not have any bearing on our political views or our decisions in the voting booth, but I disagree. I believe that God and Godly values are what made the U.S.A. great, and abandoning God will be the downfall of our country.

  16. Takia your well thought out and researched comments are so on the mark. It shows your maturity and strength. Those who chastize you are lost in a maze of hatred and ignorance. You go girl.

  17. Dear Takia, (Spelling corrections herein, sorry)

What a beautiful awakening through experience that shows your intelligence. I admire you very much. When I visit the United States, black people I see are kind to me, hospitable, courious of my funny Aussie accent, and just very polite. I think people like the black civil rights leaders make their money by making black people feel even blacker, to make them think of themselves as less as, in order to use that to their advantage, whilst damaging their inner self esteem. We are all God’s children regardless of colour. When Condaleza Rice’s father went to vote at a Democrat booth in the early 50′s, he was told to go away. He went to the Republicans’ booth and was kindly accepted to vote. Hence, the outcome was raising a great daughter. At the end of the day, its all about right and wrong. God Bless you, may you succeed in every thing you undertake, and I’ll will be watching you all the way with the greaest of support and well wishes. Philip

  18. Takia, thank you for sharing your wisdom. While I am strongly in favor of freedom to practice my faith, traditional marriage and against abortion, I also fight for the respect for Senior Citizens who are often shoved aside as though their value in society has been lost. The liberals and Obama have been the worst of the offenders. I am so angry with Obama’s abuse of Senior Citizens by exploiting them in order to force the legislators to go along with his budget plans. He threatens to hold back their Social Security, knowing that many of them could lose their homes, their gas and electric, their water, phone, medical care and many other necessities. This is criminal behavior because it is abuse as defined by the Dept of Aging.
I sent this note to him and our legislators in addition to the Attorney General
This is part of a complaint against Barack Obama for abuse of the elderly.
“Threatening to take the Social security check is abusive. Not sending the check is neglect. Using them as pawns in your egotistical political game in exploitative. These are all criminal acts punishable by the law. Descriptions of abuse are listed further down. ( not in this note) I have marked the areas where Barack is guilty.

  19. Takia —

Thanks for sharing your story. If you want to deepen your intellectual roots on the issue of race and Economics, I’d recommend reading Thomas Sowell.

    Keep the Faith!

  20. When we judge by color and religion, we are loss and can not accomplish anything that benefits us as a FREE nation. I grew up in 50,s and early 60′ in St. Louis. I know what my equals had to live with, after my first enlistment in the USAF, I learned that all I was taught about my fellow country men was wrong. In my 20 years in the USAF and almost 20 years in the Department of Veterans Affairs, I can say that as long as I treated all races as equals under my supervision, I never had a problem with anyone of color. There were several, not of color that I saw to it that they left the service to our country early for various reasons. Jim

  21. N. Maurice Williams and Winston are right. Sister, you have a slave mentality. Don’t you know that all that pro-life talk are just fronts that the republicans use to pretend to have morals. They’re not real christians, sweetie. And black men were ripped away from their homes and families waaaay before welfare came along; during slavery. By white republican men who were selling and trading them in between reading the bible and attending church. They thought it was their God-given duty to treat the Black race as they did. You need a history lesson. I’m not trying to diss your so called revelation but your thought process has been been warped.

    • Really, Sarah? You need to study more. Blacks were selling blacks to whites. Mostly Democrats. What party fought AGAINST DEMOCRATS to end slavery? The party of Lincoln- i.e. The Republicans! Seriously, if you were taught a different history lesson in school, PLEASE do your own research. Maybe you too will have a liberating epiphany.

  22. It is so sad that the facts you have discovered, will likely fall on deaf ears. When something is so ingrained in your makeup,it’s hard to admit that you were wrong.
    I admire you for becoming a thinker,and not just a follower !!

  23. That was an encouraging story and very well put. I wish more young people would stand up like this for their faith, history, and country. Thank you for sharing it and I hope you write many more articles like it.

  24. TAKIA,

You have a better understanding of the issues than most. There are progressives in both parties that want to enslave people by taking from one to give to another. That is not the charity that the Bible and God asks of us. Keep spreading you conversion. God Bless. Tim

  25. I felt like I was reading my disposition. My belief. My understanding. Thank you for writing this. Believe it or not black people are more conservative and republican than they would like to admit. Our principles are conservative. While I am not a big advocate for bibilical concepts, I do know that the bible particularly the Hebrew Bible (OT) is worthy of more inspection. Right and Wrong is just that in the HB. No middle or grey areas. Black people are like wandering sheep. We are so desperate to be identified as worthy that we have latched onto a liberial agenda that is EXTREMELY harmful to just values and morals. I will end with this: The GOd I know was NOT liberal. God was and is an Conservative. It is all in the text. That’s the proof. That’s if one values the text in any form…and when it comes to the HB I value the right and wrong concepts.

  26. God bless you. I loved your story. Mine was a bit different. I am a white male from a right leaning leaning community. By college age, I was so full of myself that I had joined the club of the broadminded, smart and sophisticated people – the Democrats. Somehow I thought that simple act catapulted my intelligence above that of my conservative neighbors and family members.
It took me until age 35 to figure out that I was dead wrong. So your learning curve was faster than mine. Additionally, I didn’t have to fear being called an Uncle Tom or whatever. Stand firm. Your courage is an inspiration.

  27. WOW! I read your article and..you are SO utterly off base. First of all your realizations are unrelated to race. They are about social status. You “realized” that conservatives and republicans are following her Bible. Lets address that…the founding fathers were for the most part Deists. They had faith in one deity that should be respected, prayed to, obeyed, etc. However we are not a theocracy, we are a nation of religious tolerance and the Bible is not our governing book! You spoke of legalizing drugs, what does that have to do with being Black? Oh wait it could…but it works against you. The reason so many Black men are not in the family is because of drugs. If our legal system wasn’t so focused on busting street level peddlers(Reagan and Bush war on drugs) then the Government wouldn’t be taking such a role in the family because the mean wouldn’t be in jail and prison. If the war on drugs were being executed appropriately then jails wouldn’t be full of poor men from rural and urban areas, it would be full of the men and women with access to planes, boats, etc that bring the drugs here, not the street level peddlers. You talk of your father taking the easy way out…well hell that was his fault for not standing up and being a man. I know of a white woman who refuses to get a job because she makes more on unemployment….so again it has NOTHING to do with race. Ignorant people get on my NERVES…race and ethnicity be damned IGNORANCE is killing us!

    • Well Winston you have fallen for the liberal history lies… the founders were not a bunch of Deists I can easily prove that the only one that considered himself a deist in the case of study also considered himself a Christian to the end and requested only a Christian burial. Thomas Jefferson whom they love to say was a deist/atheist or whatever considered himself so much a Christian that he said he was a disciple of Christ. It is in his own words but the liberal history teachers take that since Jefferson had a Bible where he questioned things he didn’t believe in them – no Jefferson was a scholar that questioned everything. The most brilliant man to ever be in the White House – what is really funny is that the idiots in DC used Jefferson’s Koran to swear in Muslims into office what morons Jefferson read that Koran because we were being attacked by muslim pirates when their Government refused to do anything about it and said it was right to kill the infidels because the Koran told them to Jefferson got a Koran read it and created the Marines to go kick their butts… funny the way liberal Historians like to rewrite history for their agenda. When arguing over the Constitution and not coming to agreement the entire Constitutional Congress attended Church together. The only Atheist was the writer of Common Sense and he wasn’t even a Founding Father he was sitting in a French prison not to mention they would have never put him into Congress. I think you should stop learning your history from lame agenda driven liberal professors and start reading the writings of the men that actually lived those lives or you can go into the Library of Congress where they cannot change record and see how many times the Founders of this Country used rational based from the Bible for their laws. The first publishing of the Bible in America in mass was funded by The UNITED STATES CONGRESS – the primer that was taught in all schools in America at it’s founding had a the 10 commandments and other Biblical teachings in it. Who funded Missionaries to go be the teachers in the Frontiers – Congress in fact the very first Congress under President Washington passed a law unanimously that all schools teach from the Bible. When Ohio asked to be considered for Statehood Jefferson wrote to them stating that they would have to abide by that law to be considered. Jefferson actually used the House of Representatives on Sundays as a Church and attended. The Founders agreed that without the moral teachings of the Bible we could not survive as a free Republic. There is no mistake about that – I encourage you to read the Federalist & the Anti Federalist papers the actual writings of Adams, Madison, Jefferson, & Franklin before you quote your stupid liberal teachers that don’t even know actual American history they just spew dates that most of the time aren’t even accurate. They will teach history from a Longfellow poem but not from Paul Revere’s own account. The same idiots that won’t bother to tell you the very first Black Speaker of the House was a REPUBLICAN !!! That the man that authored the Civil Rights bill was a Republican Senator and it passed because of the Republicans in the House and Senate not because of the Democrats they were the people that voted against it including Al Gore SR. That LBJ called Rev. Martin Luther King a trouble making “N” word. That the Jim Crow laws were started by the Democrat party Woodrow Wilson and that the Democrats started the KKK and went after Republicans as much as blacks. You don’t know a lot of history and who really had their hand in what you just repeat the lies the communist-socialist movement has been pushing for years.

      • Kate,
You’ll never know how much I appreciated reading your response above. I don’t know how old you are, not that it matters, but you have obviously studied the same History’s I have because your statements are spot on! Kudos!

      • WOW! I love your reply and appreciate your grasp of history of our Founding Fathers. You were spot on with your facts!

    • Winston, I grew up in Pontiac Michigan in the 60′s and 70′s and I saw firsthand at the lives of fellow classmates and neighborhoods in the city where the early welfare plans demanded that if a family was receiving certain types of social assistance, even if the man was trying to find work, he could not have residence in the same house as his family. The black man was pushed out of the home by these forces to create a culture of dependence, not one of independence. And please note this was a time when the unions and plants were humming right along…but many of the union halls had quotas on how many black people could get jobs, surprise!

      • I live in Los Angeles, and heard some former members of The Bloods, an LA gang, who made a documentary about their gang life, say that once welfare came in, out went the father. Gang members saw it happen to their families and neighborhoods, but white liberals keep denying. Ignorance.

  28. Your transformation has nothing to do with your Color. A poor white person could have had the same “transformation”. I’m glad your relationship with God has grown, however, lets look at God. God teaches us to help those less fortunate than us. Republicans legislate for a powerful minority controlling wealth and influence. God teaches us that killing and war is wrong, Republicans tend to me war hawks. The Bible your read and the Jesus you pray to are about tolerance and kindness. Today’s Republican party teaches intolerance. So why are you republican again? Seems to me you have been flim flammed…just not when you thought you were.

    • Takia, thanks for your sharing your ideas. I’m a white middle aged male, and though I tended toward conservative ideas generally, since Carter, Clinton, and now Obama, I’ve become even more so. Some of the commenters here don’t stop to think that when you have a large group of people, whether Republicans, Democrats, or whatever, you’ll get some lemons. They cite the preachers who were in it for the $, politicians who cheated on their wives, were gay, etc. Geez, shall we start adding up Dems? Kennedy, Kennedy, Clinton, Frank-gay, etc. Come on people, there are racists on both sides, black and white, and Asians, Latinos, etc. If you think it’s strictly a white thing, you are pretty ill-informed. Also, comments were made about the wars. Afghanistan is a no-brainer; does anyone remember a date called 9/11? We were attacked by terrorists based there kids, the ydeserved what they got. What is it that you want, for us all to be kiled because we are Christians, Jews, Buddhists, atheists, or even the wrong kind of Muslim? What is the matter with you people? I suppose you don’t think we should be able to arm ourselves against criminals because the cops always get there in the nick of time. What world do you live in? Even Iraq; though in hindsight which is always 20/20, and seemed to be a mistake; was a situation where we had the intelligence agencies of the US, England, Russia, and Germany all saying pretty much the same thing, that Saddam had WMD’s and wanted to use them on the West, including us. Though we didn’t find them, we did find evidence of them, and Saddam said that he did plan on using them eventually, so it wasn’t all a mistake. By the way, something Christians somehow don’t notice, is that the Apostles were armed, at least some of them. At any time Jesus could have told them to put away their daggars/short swords, or whatever you want to call them. But he didn’t, did he? Look at the Old Testament, God backed the Israelites in wasting their opponents, men, women, and children, their animals, you name it. Jesus wants us to love each other but he never said be doormats to be walked on by those who would do you harm. You might “turn the other cheek” to give someone a chance, but when it comes to harm, or even criminal acts, no, sorry, not acceptable. Most Democrats, especially symbolized by Mayor Daly and other members of the corrupt Cook County political machine, seem to want you to not be able to defend yourselves. Even in the face of a Supreme Court ruling, he openly spits in the face of the ruling that we are all entitled to be safe by so severely restricting your RIGHT to defend yourselves, that I’d like you to tell me who’s trying to keep black people, or anyone in that area for that matter, helpless. Not the Republicans, they want the law abiding to have all the freedoms we are supposed to have. Including being safe in our homes or wherever we may be. The Democrats are the ones trying to keep you under control, not us. Takia, you are the best. I got your comment off a friend’s Facebook page, a very cool woman in Washington(I’m from Oregon), an avid shooter and gun owner who doesn’t think women or anyone else should be a victim. Looks like some of you aren’t ready for such a concept. Oh, before I close, to intercept something I haven’t yet seen but probably will, here’s one more thing. Someone close to me was taught profiling in the service by the guy who helped solve the “Son of Sam” and “Green River” murders. People go on about racial profiling. It’s a myth. It only works against people who aren’t from here, as the rest of us are similar enough in our customs and actions that we don’t really stand out no matter what color we are. It is a simple math game. If you are in a mostly white area where most crimes are committed by white people, they will get the first look. In a predominately black area, Mexican, Asian, whatever, they look at the majority of the people who commit the crimes, not the race specifically. You will always get racists who will look at people they don’t like anyway, but most cops know better. thought I’d better pass that on while I could. Takia, what’s funny in the upcoming elections is that two of the best possibilities are black men, Alan West and Herman Cain. If one of those guys is a 2nd Amendment supporter, I’ll vote for him over the rest of the field. Both those men have really good outlooks as to what would help build our country back where it should be, after Obama’s economic disaster. Thanks for the chance to learn your views and let you know that you are welcome in the Northwest any time, just be careful west of the Cascade Mountains, that’s where the liberals hang out. Be safe and thanks once again.

  29. Takia, your article is a blessing to read and a breath of fresh air. I am a Christian mixed-race person with about 5 different colors in me. When I read your article, I was amazed, because your story is similar to mine. When I talk to liberals or democrats, nothing they say makes any sense. It’s as if they are from another planet. When they blame Republicans for war, I say “Do you want to wear a burkah, or do you want your daughter to be forced to wear one? Isn’t it amazing that some people from
the other side of the world attacked us and the Republicans are despised simply because we want to defend our country?” And it always bugs me when people don’t want to use the oil that God put in the earth because it’s there for a purpose; it doesn’t smell good, so it can’t be for making perfume, it doesn’t taste good, so it must not be there for food. Hey, how about we put it in our cars and use it to get back and forth to work and visit our parents and friends and go shopping! :) Gas prices are too high! Drill here, drill now! Heh, heh. So, God bless you and I encourage you to stick to your beliefs and don’t let anyone intimidate you or talk you out of them.

  30. Unfortunately my sister, and the many who comment giving you praise, THIS is the great deception and you’ve been hoodwinked by the slick-wicked Republicans. First it must be said I believe BOTH parties serve an agenda that’s not for the people. That being said, let’s dissect some of your statements.

*liberals introduced legislation for churches to lose their tax exempt status and felt that this was an attack on the founding principle derived from Ezra 7:24*
Ref: Bishop Eddie Long, Creflo Dollar, Jim and Tammy Faye Baker…list goes on! NO these PULPIT-PIMPS should NOT be stealing people’s money to drive Phantoms and pay off molestation cases AND doing so TAX FREE!! They build stadiums that serve THEM and not GOD! And how many times did your “TITHES” come back to help you FROM that minister when you needed help?? (hold that thought)

    * Democrats stood for abortion, which Scripture is emphatically against. *

Democrats don’t “STAND FOR abortion” we/they stand for the OPTION to exist and looking at all the single parent homes and families that are unstable in a horrible economy, would you WANT MORE children born in these conditions? Will YOU adopt them all?? Aside from the HYPOCRISY of Republicans being “AGAINST BIG GOVERNMENT” yet wanting to GOVERN a woman’s BODY! Garbage…

    * Republican platform fought for traditional marriage *
While more and more Republican politicians who “FIGHT FOR TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE” are exposed as either being GAY or CHEATING ON THEIR WIVES…I can’t even break this down any further. STOPPIT

Let’s get it totally straight, Republicans want welfare gone (like it or not, lot’s of poor minority families need it – anti-”Minority” policy) and don’t want healthcare that guarantees every AMERICAN coverage and want to protect THE RICH (Most of whom are WHITE in the U.S) from paying more taxes in a time where the country needs that revenue because of the REPUBLICAN president before Obama.

Surely your faith will grant you more of an objective view on TRUTH of matters. I don’t think God condones the 2-3 wars the Republican party has gotten us into under false pretense.

“THOU SHALT NOT KILL” (except if you need oil and to bury secrets)

    • Sharing my story will cause some support and opposition too. That’s fine. That is just the nature of the beast. However, I’d like to point out that many of your rebuttals focused on people….people that failed to put Christian principles into practice. My focus is on principles (Scriptural principles) which never fail when practiced.

Yes, Republicans do want black genocide gone. I am sure you know about Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood) that stated, “We do not want the word to get out that we want to exterminate the Negro race.” Don’t believe me? Buy one of her books. Adolf Hitler was a big fan of hers and employed her Eugenics (race cleansing) tactics in Germany. There is no “option”, only murder here. 3/4′s of Planned Parenthoods are tucked away in minority areas. This is no accident.

Being that welfare is economic slavery, just open your eyes to every urban city and see the ruin that liberals have caused. When Lyndon B Johnson announced his war on poverty (welfare) in 1964, he said it would elminate poverty. Today, welfare has caused the black man to abandon post which is a major contributor to single family households and you advocate black genocide (abortion) as the “cure?”

I can only urge you to study deeper. I too, once shared your viewpoint. God Bless.

      • God bless you, Takia. And thank you for pointing out that welfare is economic slavery. I hate to see bright and creative people of any ethnicity being fed the lie that they are victims and should not work, but should accept food stamps and shoddy subsidized housing as their lot in life. Welfare is bondage and the price the victims pay is their hopes and dreams. No one should have to accept the subsistence that is provided by the government “programs”. We are all heirs to the kingdom of God and He wants better for all of His children. I know that you will go far, Takia, and don’t let the naysayers ever stop you.

      • Nicely stated Takia. I will add that Williams ended his/her post with “Thou Shalt Not Kill” three paragraphs after he/she said that abortions are good. That whole abortion paragraph was pretty rough, saying that it’s better for the kids to be killed than to grow up in a poor area(pretty cold hearted), or that preventing murder is somehow “governing a woman’s body”. We govern people’s bodies all the time when they pick up a weapon and use it to kill other people.

And notice the racism. If I had said derogatory words about black people like Williams said about whites, I’d be called a racist all day long. Darn rich white people trying to keep their money that they earned instead of having it taken by the government and giving to somebody who didn’t earn it! The nerve! Sure it keeps the minorities dependent on government, but that’s good, because the democrats can go to minority rich areas and tell the people that if they don’t vote for dems, the mean rich republicans are going to take all of their welfare away, so it’s a tool for electing democrats. That’s about all it is.

And naming a few churches while ignoring the tens of thousands that are nothing like his/her examples….kind of seems like a weak argument.

Again, congrats on the conversion, the emergence from ignorance, hate speech, class warfare, and bigotry. Good luck in your journey

      • Takia, your response to Mr. Williams was full of your Christian beliefs and Christian charity and I applaud you for being so level-headed and calm in responding. (I wouldn’t have been that charitable, sad to say.) YOU are an inspiration to me. Your approach to dealing with liberal viewpoints is something that I must learn… and soon! We are facing a horrible, undoubtedly evil, vicious election next year and will be inundated from all sides with political diatribes and opinions and rhetoric. We are going to have to be strong in our beliefs and strong to our convictions if we are to win this battle ’cause it isn’t going to be pretty. I will keep your attitude and fortitude uppermost in my mind in the ensuing months and will also lift you in prayer daily! Thank you for your inspiration and wisdom!

      • Takia, First thank you for your article. I am a 64 year old white male, a Christian and average citizen. Being of the age that I am I have seen our America taken to its lower limits. You are a refreshing face and please go for the gold. Follow Our Lord, be bold and let nothing hold you back. May God Bless you many times over.

    • Mr. N. Maurice,

You are so wrong and so misinformed that I can not even begin to argue with you. But, I write this anyway, just to let you know that you’re old outdated left wing world view is being exposed for the lie that it is, all over the world. The people that you want to control the most, black people, are beginning to wake up.

For example, go back and read some of the magazine stories from the 1960s. You will see that it was Democrats that created and promoted segregation. Democrats set dogs upon black marchers. Democrats turned fire hoses on the freedom marchers in Alabama. Democrats refuse to allow black children to receive a real education.

Don’t believe me, do your own homework.

  31. Takia, you’re a modern-day Harriet Tubman. Keep leading your people out of a slavery mindset–we’re on your side.

  32. I really enjoyed your testimony of enlightenment. I am so glad that you are taking a stand against the forces that corrupt our nation. If we all bind together it will be a much easier fight. Press on! :)

  33. Thank you all for the warm reception to this message. May God bless you all and I also encourage you guys to keep up the good fight. I pray we take this country back for God.

    • Thank you so much for this message of truth. I deeply appreciate you coming forward and speaking out! We have too much to lose not to try and save it. God bless you and give you strength to keep up the good fight.

    • Takia: What a bright young lady you are. Thank you for Thinking for yourself, and not listening to all the negative voices that would tell you that because of your, or my, race that we should vote a certain way. I am a white male 55 yrs old, and had 5 way bypass surgery 2 years ago. I was told by some (liberals), that I should apply for disability. I AM NOT DISABLED. I work hard every day for the things I want/ need, that is what was instilled in me from my father. I praise God for my ability to work.Keep studying God’s word and pay no more attention to the lies of Satan. Thankyou and keep up the good work.

  34. Takia, I am so impressed with you. You are not only bright (there are a lot of them) but you THINK. The vast majority of the voters I know do not do that. You are a credit to the Lord, and you are truly His. God bless you.

  35. Wow, Takia. Your testimony is quite moving. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I was especially impressed with the research you did to learn the truth about the platforms of both parties. The strength of your convictions speaks volumes. Thank you again.

  36. Takia…I have often wondered how many Christians reconcile being a Democrat with their Biblical view. I loved your blog and thanks for being so very honest. God bless you!

  37. Thank You so much for sharing. I enjoyed it. Stay ytrong too, although I don’t think you’re allowed to be a black conservative and be weak. We all White, Black, Hispanic, Asian on the conservative platform stand with you. Conservatism and the Republican Party is for ANYONE and EVERYONE who feel if they identify with conservative ideals. It isn’t and never has been relegated to one race. That’s silly.

  38. Thank you Takia, Wonderful words to encourage us all.
You are one greatly blessed….born for such a time as this. Will be praying for you and that God himself will Equip you, to lead prisoners out of captivity.
    Sarah, Alabama

  39. Takia,

Thank you for an insightful writing. Growing up near Gary, I too, know what you’re talking about. It truly upsets me that government is taking the place of fathers in cities such as Gary. I can’t watch the Chicago news anymore. The shootings of young black men, and children upsets me too much! I know that there are many good black fathers out there, but we don’t get to hear about them very much.

  40. This was refreshing, truthful, intellegent, and real.
Thank you for sharing this and I hope it will bring others to see God’s truth.

  41. Bravo to you! There are far to few people, of all colors, who ever think to ask themselves why they believe what they believe. Your curiosity and questioning of “truths” you were taught as a child opened your eyes and, more importantly, you mind to the reality of whats been going on for decades. Republicans are not correct in all that they do, but I believe they are much closer to being representative of the ideals that founded and allowed this country to grow great then is the Democrat Party. It is a very courageous thing you have done, and what does THAT say about our country, when it takes such courage to publicly declare a political affiliation? Still, the country needs more people to question their understanding of the “truth”, and ask the most basic of questions….”Am I better off now then when whoever’s in charge took over?” If the answer is not a resounding “Yes”, then how can one possibly consider keeping them in that position?

  42. That is a very powerful testimony, and God bless you; I have been a conservative for almost thirty years down here in Atlanta, Georgia and please, don’t let the enemy take away your joy

  43. God has richly blessed you Takia and given you the ability to see the world through his eyes. Thank you for reading and studing the Bible and most of all, applying it to your life and those around you. Don’t be silent-God can use 1 person to change the lives of thousands…Just look at Moses! Beautiful article & well written. Keep it up young lady for you are our future. God Bless!

  44. Takia, welcome. As a white male, I am happy to welcome you WITH OPEN ARMS to rational thinking. You are so welcome at this table, and in my home if you ever find a need for a place to stay while in the boston area. Feel free to let me know.

We need more people to start thinking and researching for themselves, and I hope you and people like you START that happening.

    Much respect.

    Dan

  45. Well written and insightfully honest. Thank you for working to dispell that stereotype of what Repulicans are and what they stand for!

  46. I totally understand how you feel. I underwent a similar conversion in 2009. I tell anyone who will listen that I found the intersection of my faith and my politics. Keep fighting the good fight! :-)

  47. Takia, this is a wonderful, insightful article. I am so happy to know that there are many of us out there who rely on God to reveal his wisdom in us. A political party will not save black Americans. It is our faith and reliance in God and a return to him that will revive us once again. I will share your article with others. God bless.

    Sharon Russ

  48. Takia, you give me hope. Hope that more and more Black American’s will be able to see through the lies, deceit and divisive tactics the Left has used for decades to divide us and encourage an immoral, god-less country.

I have to say, this has been a subtle assault against the founding principles and moral principles our country has thrived in. If more people of all colors, faiths and backgrounds do not wake up soon, I fear we may lose this wonderful country that truly gives us all the opportunity to pursue, Life (no abortions), Liberty (small government) and the pursuit of happiness (the ability to take a chance to succeed, yet understand that if we fail, it will only make us stronger).

Thanks for this wonderful, poignant and honest story.

I will be sharing it with all I can.

    Michele Austin

  49. Thank you, Takia. I so appreciate your honesty. Thank you for sharing your journey with God that affected your voting. I am an urban conservative who has compassion for the poor – a desire to see people set free and grow into all God has intended for each individual. God bless you!
